Incorporate Yoga at Your Desk

You’ve read all the articles. You’ve printed out different tips and tricks to remind yourself to:

  • Drink more water

  • Get up and move every hour

  • Look away from the computer screen

and so on.

Why aren’t these reminders 100% effective? It comes down to accountability.

The American Society of Training and Development found that people are 65% more likely to meet a goal after committing to another person. What’s even crazier is that this goal jumps to 95% when you meet with someone else to accomplish it.

Insert why bringing yoga to the office has been proven to be highly effective for teams.

What’s made office yoga even more enticing is the idea that you don’t have to change your clothes or even break a sweat to reap the benefits of office yoga.

Benefits include:

  • More energetic employees = more productivity

  • Improved concentration + decision making

  • Relief of head, neck and back strain

  • Enhanced mood and general job outlook

  • Promotes camaraderie among coworkers

What is desk yoga?

It’s as simple as that: it is yoga, right at your desk. Movements that are both desk and work clothes friendly.

Don’t think it’s for you? Try this simple 3-step sequence that is both energizing and calming.

Seated side bend:

Prevent your side body from collapsing while hunched over by finding a fall spine and bending from side to side

Cactus arms:

Strengthen the upper bak and shoulders while opening the chest with cactus arms

Forearms touch:

From cactus arms, exhale and bring the forearms together to open across your back

Give this small sequence a try a few times through the day to break up the day and improve your posture.
